Prevention and Education Services

Directions for Youth & Families' prevention and education services reach out to youth on the challenging social issues of pregnancy prevention, sexual abstinence, and building healthy relationships; improving conflict resolution skills and attitudes toward cultural diversity; and the prevention of alcohol, drug, and tobacco use. Prevention / education classes are held in schools and other community locations.

My Best Self:
A teen pregnancy prevention program serving high-risk boys and girls, ages 11-18, in school- and community-based groups throughout Franklin County.
Drug and alcohol prevention groups:
Two groups, based on the LifeSkills curriculum, are offered. SEEDS, for youth ages 7-10, is an after-school program that focuses on prevention, education, and skills enhancement. A similar school-based program is offered to Columbus City middle school students.
Summer Program:
An 8-week summer day camp that combines the programming of our prevention education programs and the artistic and recreational activities offered at the Short Stop Youth Center and Ohio Avenue Youth Center for youth ages 10 -14. Youth can choose at which location to participate.
